The Fawn
Gentle and warm
She lays there silently
Softly she rises and walks making no noise
She keeps her head down
“Don’t hurt me” she cries though big gentle eyes
She makes herself as small as possible
Trying to stay out of everyone’s way
She doesn’t want to make anyone feel threatened
Or bother anyone with her pain
She lights up at the praise of others
But fades at their harsh criticism
Comes around to play if you give her kind words
But shrinks back when words are used in anger
She will explore and be brave when she knows she is safe
But will grow timid and shake when she knows she is not
She wants to be loved and cherished
But is terrified of the attention
She befriends the hurting and the lonely
Only to find herself in danger when it turns out to be a injured wolf
Always to late she realizes the error in judgment
Then she spends her time trying to persuade the wolf to not destroy her
Making herself as small and insignificant as possible
To convince the wolf she is no threat
She’ll dance and play in the sunshine lying to herself
Trapped in her own delusions and fantasies
Whatever it takes to please the wolf
Its safer and easier to keep it that way
She’ll be praised by the good for such a humble demeanor
Told she is good and easy to get along with
But as she slips further into the delusion
She’ll forget who she is and what she was made more
And believe what the wolf tells her
But eventually the wolf will grow tired of her
And all her work will have been for nothing
She’ll grow resentful and try to hide
As she feels the wolf trying to leave and growing angry
She will try harder to be pleasing
But as she continues to grow
Her cute white spots will fade
Her redish brown fluffy fur will change
For a fawn is unable to stay a fawn for long
No matter how hard she tries
And when being a fawn is no longer an option
Then she will be left with a choice when danger comes …. to freeze or flee
