The Broken Heart (Part 1)
The morning dawns
The heart wakes
The pain of the last few months returns
The wounds are still fresh
The heart is still torn
Yet another day begins
Pushing forward to a new life
Looking for a new place to land
A fresh face and a pretty dress
With shiny lips, dark-lined eyes, and bouncing curls
All to hide the broken heart underneath
Perfect impressions must be achieved
Performing on a stage
Hitting the marks of a perfect dance
Smiling and twirling
Another day of “faking until you make it”
Ignoring the smoke from the ruins left behind
Most people would have no idea
Of the great escape
The darkness that loomed
The mass destruction
Burned land of ash
Afraid and distrustful of bridges in the past
The heart searches for new lands in a new world
For a place to build a new life
Broken but crawling forward
The wound of an ultimate betrayal
One assigned to protect the heart always, entrusted with its care
Had chosen the darkness and stabbed the heart open
The heart defenseless in a cage
Tortured and mocked for pleasure
Stones of condemnation and ignorance are thrown from all around
Became the stones used to build the castle
All while the heart still bleeds
The mind works overtime
Parties and events, smiling and waving
More performing
Open wounds bandaged and covered
Tears fall as the heart tries to keep the mind present
Trying not to miss anything
Happiness and joy feel like a chore
The heart struggles to feel anything but pain
Searching and holding tightly to any shreds of joy
Paths chosen; decisions made
Trying to hide the brokenness underneath
Nightmares that plague the mind in sleep
Left the heart racing and panicked
But still the months go by
Months turn to years
Slowly the heart begins to heal
Stone by stone the castle is built
A new name and a new home
The heart set free
The heart finds some purpose
Finds others to love
Spring has come
The golden age dawns
Everything is shiny, pretty, and new
Happy and joyful
If only for a moment…………..
